B1.17
Steve: Are some people luckier than others?
Adam: No. Some people have richer parents or more successful friends who can help them to succeed. Their life is better because they are rich and well connected not because they are lucky.
Steve: Does that not make them lucky though? If one man is born with richer parents and more successful friends that give him a happier life does that not make him luckier than a man born with poorer parents and unsuccessful friends who give him a sadder life? Neither of the men deserves to be richer or poorer, it's just luck.
Adam: But if they both gambled, the richer man isn't more likely to win because he is rich, they have an equal chance because they have equal luck. Being richer or more successful is not the same as being lucky.
